Happy 2016, everyone!

I first saw this posted on Christina Reads YA, and have since seen it around a few other blogs. I thought it was a neat way to start the blogging year (even if I am a little late!) So I decided to do this for myself!

Here are my 2016 Bookolutions.

A Series I Plan to Begin:

Okay, I’m totally cheating on this one, as I started the series in December. But….my blog, my rules! =P The series I (recently) began was the Orca Secrets series. If you don’t know, this is a series of seven YA mysteries that were released all at the same time, and can be read in any order (each authored by a different person). They are separate stories, but they all revolve around a group of teenagers who have to find their own way in the world after their orphanage burns to the ground. The orphans (all girls) get a small clue about where they came from, and from then on, each girl goes to a different place, to meet different people, and solve her very own mystery. I’ve listened to three of the seven books so far, and they are really good. I can’t wait to continue this series!

A Series I Plan to Finish:

This is definitely Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles. I don’t actually read a lot of series…I like the idea of them, but most of the time I don’t get past the first book. This, however, is an awesome series, and I can’t wait to listen to its conclusion! The audiobook already came in for me at the library in December, but it came a day before I was going on holiday (a time when I wouldn’t be able to listen). Since it’s such a long book, I figured I’d be nice and let someone else have it instead of me keeping hold of it for three weeks and still not getting through to the end! I’m now second in line for it…hopefully this time when it comes in, I’ll be able to listen, =)

A Book I’ve Put Off Reading Year After Year:

There are a lot of these. I don’t do it intentionally…it’s just, you know, there are far too many books to choose from! Lately I’ve been meaning to read/listen to The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, which has been on my “someday” list for ages. So I’ll pick that for my one to tackle sooner rather than later.

A Book or Series I Plan to Re-read:

I’m not a re-reader. Again, this is a too-many-books-too-little-time scenario. I’ll flip through books I’ve read and I’ll re-read passages here or there, but generally I just don’t re-read full novels. However, there is one exception, and if you’ve followed my blog for a while you may already know that it’s Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. I downloaded an audiobook version of this wonderful story read by the magnificent Tim Curry a couple of years ago, and still have not listened to it. So that might be on my list for 2016!

A Genre I’d Like to Read More of:

This one is tricky because I don’t read heavily in any one single genre, and honestly, I feel like I’d like to read more in all of them! However, if I were to pick one, I think I’d say historical fiction. This never used to be a genre that interested me, but now I find it fascinating, and there are a few time periods I’m eager to explore.

The Number of Books I Want to Read:

I used to keep track and make goals for the number of books I wanted to read, and in some ways it was great. It helped me keep track of what I’d already read, and gave me a good sense of my interests and patterns as a reader. However, it also made me unnecessarily stressed out whenever I didn’t quite meet the goals I’d made. So, I gave it up. Now, I don’t keep track or set goals for myself, and I think it’s better that way. Less stressed, and more time to enjoy the reading experience!

My Non-Bookish Resolution:

I’ll stick to writing for this one, which is (boringly enough) the same as it is every year! I will do whatever I can to get my stories written, edited, polished, queried, and published. Whether it’s big steps or small ones (and even if they end up going backwards at times) I’ll do my best to be happy with my achievements, and positive about the writing road ahead! Last year was an amazing year for writing. Here’s hoping 2016 will be even better!

Those are my bookolutions for this year. What are yours?
