Writing Wednesday

Welcome to Writing Wednesday, a kind of regular post about what I’m up to writing-wise!

~ What I’m Writing ~

A couple of weeks ago I finished my unofficial NaNoWriMo project’s first draft. It’s not a full novel, but it was still great to see it come together and be completed. I’m definitely in editing mode at the moment, so I have no plans to write anything new for the next little while. However, if you know me as a writer, you know my plans can change very quickly!

~ What I’m Editing ~

I just finished going over the NaNoWriMo project’s first edit sweep. I always do this as soon as I’ve finished writing the draft, so I can see if the story flows. I also use this as a chance to take note of the major things I’ll need to focus on in my more thorough editing. I was actually pretty nervous about reading through this draft, as I didn’t think the story was going to flow very well. Happily, it turned out to be (to me) a lot better than I’d been expecting! There are certainly things to work on, but I call it a win for sure.

I’ve also printed off my major YA manuscript, the one I’ve been re-writing and editing for most of this past year. It’s super exciting to be in the hard-copy edits stage, but frightening, too. I can’t wait to get this story back out into the query trenches, but at the same time, there’s always a good possibility of being met with a lackluster response, which will be all the more disappointing after the extra work I’ve put in this year. But, we shall see how it goes!

Today, I found myself looking up the official names for world time zones!

~ What I’m Planning ~

As I mentioned above, right now it’s all about editing. I want to get the hard-copy edits completed by the end of the year, if possible. I’m actually off work this week, so I’m getting a nice head-start. Hopefully I’ll be able to work on it fairly consistently throughout the rest of the month as well.

That’s the recap for this week. Let me know in the comments what you’ve been up to in your writing lately!
