First Full Request!

So, I mention it briefly on my About page, but I haven’t really talked about it too much.  But I guess I will start talking about it now.  I like to write.  And I write a lot.  Particularly in the last couple of years…and now I’ve actually decided to try and make a go of it.  It’s always been a life goal of mine to have one of my stories published, and now I’ve come to the conclusion that that will never happen unless I actually do something to make it happen!

So I have started the treacherous process of trying to get a literary agent.  For those that don’t know, getting an agent is tough; first, you query with a short, book-jacket-ish description of your book.  If the agent is interested, they ask for a partial or full manuscript, and then they consider that.  There are many, many rejections usually, but with a good story and some luck, you might get some offers of representation!  Of course, this can take a long time, too.

So I’ve started sending out queries, and then yesterday something amazing happened…I got a request for a fullEEEEE!  It was pretty exciting.

Now, on the one hand, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything.  The agent could get my manuscript, take a look at it, and hate it.  Or, they could think the story is good, but not a good fit for them, or that the story is okay, but still needs some work before it’s ready to be published, or………the list could go on for days.

But, on the other hand, it does mean something.  It means that I’m not totally crazy for doing this!  Along with this particular query, I send the agent the first three chapters of my book.  And those chapters were enough to have the agent want to see more.  Which is awesome.

Plus, if I do get rejected, which is still a MAJOR possibility, there is a good chance that I will get some kind of feedback, which could be extremely useful!

So, I am happy.  It’s a big step.  And a nice boost of confidence…which is definitely nice when you keep getting rejections everyday o_o

Ah, the life of a writer.  Why do we put ourselves through such torture?  The things we do for our passion ^^
