GUTGAA Pitch Contest and Reader Appreciation!

I’m very happy to relate that I made it into the GUTGAA Agent Pitch Contest!  Round one (I think) will be posted tomorrow?  So I’m excited to see what other queries are grouped with me.  Did everyone else make it in?  It’s so exciting, but nerve-racking at the same time, eh?

In other news, I was nominated for a Reader Appreciation award.  Whoo!  I was happily surprised to see myself nominated for this award…it’s so great to get to meet people through forums, blogs, and contests, and it’s neat to get to share the love and good tidings with everyone else through things like this!  So now, it’s my turn to spread a little joy, =D

See, there’s this writer I met through Query Tracker, and she is awesome.  She’s lots of fun, she’s dedicated to her work, and she’s got definite writing talent.  Her ideas are awesome (particularly my favourite of hers, a current fairy-tale retelling-in-progress that I just LOVE), and she’s going places for sure!  I haven’t known her for long, but that doesn’t mean anything…she’s a great writing companion, and I’m so happy to have met her, and to know I can say I knew her when.  Lots of luck and writing love to the wonderful Carey Torgesen!

Okie dokie.  So, in order to participate in this award, there are a few rules that must be followed.  They are as follows:

If you’re tagged, follow the rules!  Cause if you don’t, well…let’s not even discuss that unsavoury situation, =3

– Identify and show appreciation to the blogger who nominated you
– You must add the reward logo to your blog.
– Tell your readers 7 things about yourself.
– You must nominate 5-10 of your favorite bloggers for this award.
– Inform your nominees that you nominated them.

2 things done, three more to go!  Check out my random things below!

7 things about me:

1. When I was a teen I had my belly button pierced several times, but my body rejected it…eventually it broke the skin completely, so now I have a permanent scar on my tummy where there’s a small gash of skin missing!  Sometimes it still hurts, too, even though its been about eight years since it happened.

2. I hate toads.  Like, seriously.  I am fine with snakes and bugs (well, when I’m outside, anyways), but if I see even a baby toad, I will shriek and jump away.  Apparently, when I was little I used to chase them and carry them around…shudders

3. When I was in the fourth grade, I was part of my school’s clown troupe…yep, I was an honorary clown.

4. I took one writing class in high school.  I failed miserably on the journalism assignments, and on speech writing.  But, I did win first place in the class competition for the short story assignment.  So I guess creative writing has always been the way to go!

5. I barely even knew YA books existed a year-and-a-half ago.  Yup.  I took a class in school called Young Adult Materials, and it opened a whole new world to me.  If I ever get a YA novel published, one of the first things I want to do is to send a copy to my professor, with a note of thanks.  She was amazing, and definitely made a big impact on my life.

6. My favourite place to eat out is Panera Bread.  Until recently, we didn’t have any in Canada (*cries*).  But now they are popping up around here, and it is bliss.  More than once, we’ve driven an hour and a half just to go there for lunch.  My husband shakes his head at me every time I suggest it, but he loves it, too. =)

7. My full first name is not Mere (are you surprised???  Yeah, I doubted you would be, =P).  It’s Meredith.  All my life, people have seemed to have a big problem with this.  I tend to be called Marilyn a lot.  And don’t even get me started on the spelling of it!

And finally, for my nominees (in no particular order!)

Tamara – I only met Tamara recently, through GUTGAA, but already she’s recommended some awesome books to me, and has shown herself to be a lot of fun!  Plus, she has the best quote ever on her blog, =)

Alythia Brown – I met Alythia through Query Tracker, when she was just getting her website up and running.  This author is full of support and goes out of her way to help her fellow writers out!

Cheryl Koevoet – Another Query Tracker mate, who introduced me through her blog to, a fantastic resource for all things YA lit!  Great lady, and she likes movies and chocolate, two things that are top-notch with me!

Bethany Myers – Bethany is one of the first fellow writers I began following when I started to become serious about my work.  She’s got the best posts ever, which sometimes make me laugh (her episode recaps come to mind), but also make me think about my writing (and often make me want to watch certain movies).  We both often think of writing in cinematic ways, and I love that I can relate to her through that!

Tonja Drecker – Another chocolate lover, and a tea drinker, too.  Also, another QT gal! (See a trend??)  Tonja runs a great blog, which has such useful posts (like her grammar Fridays!)  She puts fantastic effort into her work, and it provides help to so many writers!

So I spread my appreciation out to these wonderful ladies, and to bloggers everywhere!

Happy Sunday everyone ^_^
