H is for Happy

Lame segue, I know. But that’s how it’s going to be! ^_^

Today I am happy, because the lovely and fun Tonja Drecker nominated me for the Sunshine Award!
A few questions to answer, so here we go!
What inspired you to start blogging?

Library school! I took a course called Young Adult Materials, and as part of the course, we had to keep a blog. After the semester was over, I created a new blog, and kept at it. It’s definitely grown since then (I used to post once, maybe twice a month!), but I’ve been consistently here throughout! I love the opportunity to blab and write online, =)

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Mere Joyce is my pen name. It’s the first part of my first name, and my middle name. I had a really hard time with thinking of how to use my last name in writing. I didn’t want to use my married name because, well, it’s not what I was born with. But I didn’t want to use my maiden name because I made the choice to take my husband’s name, and I didn’t want to just ignore that commitment since he is a big part of my writing, too! So I dropped last names altogether and fashioned something else.

What is your favourite blog to read?

I don’t have a favourite, really. There are a handful of blogs I read all the time, and several more I flit by when I can. Each blog is so individual, however, that different blogs serve different purposes!

Tell about your dream job.

Hmm. Tough one, eh? My dream job is to be a writer. My crazy ultimate-fantasy-esque dream is to be a world famous author, of course! But my more grounded dream, and one I will strive to achieve, is to be able to work as a librarian part-time, and write part-time. I love being a librarian, and I’m happy to think of always doing this. But I also love to write, and I need to write…it’s just who I am. It’d be great if that could also make up part of what I do.

Is your glass half full or half empty?

I will admit that every now and then it seems half empty, but I am quick to scold myself at those times and make myself see it half-full. Times are not always easy, but I’ve been given a lot in this world, so while my humanness requires me to feel down in the dumps at times, I know there’s much worse out there, and I have tons to be thankful for!

If you could go anywhere for a week’s vacation, where would you go?

England. Been there once, and it was awesome. I’m not sure where in the country I’d like to go, since I’d like to explore all over. At least a day in London again, I think…Kensington Gardens is one of my favourite places in all the world.

What food can you positively not eat?

Well I’m a picky eater, so this is tough. But I think I’d go with pork. And by pork, I mean mostly all pork. I hate pork chops, and ham. I can eat a very small amount of sausage or bacon before I feel sick, and I could certainly live without either. Bleh, just not for me!

Dark chocolate or milk chocolate?

Orange chocolate, actually. But if I have to…milk.

How much time do you spend blogging?

Hmm…a couple of hours a week? Depends on my topic!

Do you watch T.V., and if so, what are your favourite shows?

Yes, I do, but most of my favourites are not actually running anymore. Buffy is a given, I’m sure readers will know that. I really loved Dexter, but this last season sort of pushed it away from me. Downton Abbey, obviously! Arrested Development (May 26 I believe is the new releases!), and my all-time favourite is Spaced.

Sorry, it took so long to see this 🙂 I've always wondered where your name came from. Neat. And I'll send all my orange chocolate to you because I don't like the stuff 😉
