Q is for Quiver

From an online Scrabble word finder http://www.scrabblefinder.com/word/quiver/
Quiver – n. – An almost pleasurable sensation of fright.
What a fantastically perfect definition! I actually had no intention of doing a post on this word, until I came across this description of it. It strikes me as the very thing I would love to accomplish with my writing. Not that everything I write is meant to pleasurably frightening, but when I do write something in that dark, drizzly way, I hope it can elicit this very sensation. I would love someday to write a story full of moments that make readers quiver, as I absolutely love to read them myself.
There has been a plot niggling at the back of my mind lately, and this concept of quivering inspires me to think it through further.
So a short post today, but one that I hope will get you thinking of the perfect words to describe your favourite reads, or your favourite kinds of writing!
Happy quivering, everyone!

  1. That is a very nice definition and right on. Lips quiver, mouths quiver, bodies quiver and it's all about that twinge of expectancy and fear commingled.

It's funny, when I saw quiver the first thing that popped into my mind was a thing to hold arrows. Apparently I don't quiver enough. 🙂
