What’s Up Wednesday

Hosted by Jaime Morrow and Erin L. Funk, this is a great way for writers to get together and keep in touch!

So what have I been up to?

WHAT I’M READING

I finished reading Wicked Girls by Stephanie Hemphill, and really enjoyed it right to the end! It was a fascinating imagining of what these characters (all based on real people involved in the trials) were thinking during the year of the accusations and witch trials/hangings. Although I have to say after reading this and learning a bit more about the actual Salem Witch Trials, watching Hocus Pocus this year might be a little strange, =P

WHAT I’M WRITING

I’m getting to the end of the manuscript! As I imagined, I think the story will end up being a fair bit shorter than I originally intended. However, that’s okay…there are things I know I want to add in during eventual edits, and since this entire writing sprint was meant to be quick, I’m okay with knowing I’ll have a bit of extra work to do once that editing stage arrives.

So, still hoping to finish the story by the end of next week!

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Knowing that the book is coming to its close is definitely motivation to get it finished! I’m hitting that point where I’m excited and want to write to pull all the threads together and close the story up, but I’m also getting excited to be done with this stage of the writing, so I can rest and give the story time to settle.

WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO

I’ve been pretty horrible at blogging lately due to being quite busy in other ways…so I apologize about that first!

Had another doctor’s appointment last week, and learned that it looks like I have the beginnings of growth restriction, so my doctor has taken me off work. Luckily, it’s only 2 and a half weeks before I planned to go off work, anyways, so it’s not too drastic an adjustment. But, it’s still rather strange! I will probably be induced early as well, so we’ll see what happens. I have a hospital appointment and a doctor’s appointment tomorrow to see how things are going, and then another ultrasound on Tuesday (I expect that’s when they’ll make the induction decision). So, we’re probably going to meet this little guy sooner than expected!

Me and my husband also went to the FanExpo on the weekend. I wish I could say it was fun, but…it really wasn’t o_o. Took three hours to get there when it should have taken only one, and then when we finally found parking, we discovered the venue had oversold tickets and hit capacity, so they were regulating how many people could come in. So we had to wait for an hour and a half to get inside (keeping in mind we’d already paid for our tickets ahead of time). Then, we had to immediately line up for another hour for our special event (which they also oversold), and after that was over, everything else at the expo was already closed for the night. Oh, and it took another three hours to get home again. Got to love the city!

So, I think we’ll still plan to go again another year, but on a weekday when we can take transit into the city and not have to worry about them being so busy they hit capacity. The event as a whole still seemed like it could be tons of fun…just not the way it ended up playing out for us!

That’s been my week. What have you been up to?

Sorry to hear FanExpo didn't go so well. Boooo!

Hope all your baby-related things go smoothly, too. Maybe the little one is just super eager to join this crazy ol' world of ours 😀

    Good luck finishing the manuscript!

That's too bad about FanExpo. Something similar happened at the ComicCon near here a couple years ago. They completely oversold the thing, and I think they weren't actually letting people in at all after that, even though they'd bought tickets in advance. Eek. What a nightmare. Hope you're able to go another year. I also hope everything goes smoothly with the baby! 🙂 Have a great week, Mere!
  3. While reading I want to finish as fast I can and look for another. This keeps me going. Sorry to hear that FanExpo encountered some glitches travelling but nothing too bad happened, it was nice. Thanks.

🙁 So sorry to hear about the expo. It's really unexcusable when organizers do things like that. But yay to your MS!!! Sounds like it and the baby are on a similar schedule Lol! Here's wishing you all the best at the next doctor's visit!
  5. whenever I get to the end of a manuscript I pull back because I don't want to say good-bye. But it's also so exciting to get there after all the hard work. Congrats!

    Thanks everyone!

Yes, apparently the same thing happened at FanExpo a few years back, and at that point they completely shut down the whole thing…so at least this year they let people in in groups o_o

Baby is still doing well, so here's hoping he stays on that track!
